Alexandra and I spend 1 – 2 months here every year for good reason: not only does it have a charming historic town center, but it also boasts beautiful beachfront properties. One of them, a luxurious “private resort,” particularly stands out for its location on a kilometer-long, almost deserted beach.
This approximately 18-km-long island of Atalaia is surrounded by mangrove forests, rivers, and other islands and is located in a beautiful nature reserve of almost 1,000 km². The small town of Canavieiras (population: approximately 35,000), about 4 km away and accessible by a bridge, boasts colonial architecture and offers all the essential amenities for everyday life: supermarkets, a weekly market, shops, pharmacies, banks, doctors, a hospital, and a charming harbor promenade with restaurants and bars.
